John Ross has the privilege of being one of the top wide receiver prospects in this year’s NFL Draft – and for good reason. Last season, Ross, a second-team All-American, had 81 catches for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns for Washington and helped the Huskies to the College Football Playoff.

But Ross, a projected first-round pick, also has the privilege of being friends with Snoop Dogg.

“Well, I know Snoop through football,” Ross told Andrew Bogusch and Pete Prisco, who were filling in as hosts of CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “He’s been my coach for several years when I was younger, maybe from when I was about 7 to about 14.”

Ross, 22, grew up in Long Beach, California. He was a star high school wideout and cornerback and even ran track. But his time with Snoop shaped him as a player and person.

“When I was on his season-long team, he didn’t miss a practice,” said Ross, who ran a record 4.22 in the 40-yard dash at the Combine. “He was just a hands-on coach. Everything that happened went through him. He was calling plays on offense and defense. He was our motivator – everything. He did everything for our team.”
