South Florida’s newest head coach is Charlie Strong. It didn’t take the recently let go Texas head coach long to find a new landing spot. Strong joined Gio And Jones on CBS Sports Radio to talk about his ending at Texas and his new opportunity at USF.
Many players showed up for Strong’s final press conference at Texas, which was special for him.
“It was amazing because I didn’t even know they were going to be there,” Strong said. “I walk in the room and the whole team was practically there, I was like…wow. It shows that the relationships built there will carry for a lifetime. You think about this game and wins and losses are important, but also, just building a good foundation for young men where you give them a chance where they can go be successful in life.”
How hard was it to hear the news he was being let go?
“When it came down to it, you just kind of knew,” said Strong. Even if you got one more year, how hard would it have been to get through that one year. It would have affected recruiting. It would have been hard to manage it and go through it. Tom’s going to do a really good job.”
