Jerry Jones made some interesting comments on backup-turned-starting-quarterback Brandon Weeden this week.
“He’s a thing of beauty on throwing the football,” Jones said, raving about the 31-year-old former first-rounder. “His passing motion and his arm, frankly, you won’t see a more gifted passer, power, accuracy, the entire aspect of it.”
London Fletcher’s response when he heard this quote? Uncontrollable laughter.
“I almost crashed my car,” the former All-Pro and current CBS Sports Network analyst said on CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “Listen, we played against Brandon Weeden when he was in Cleveland, and man, he threw me an interception – I thought I was playing catch with my kid in the park or in the backyard, man.”
That image, of course, prompted hearty laughter from Brian Jones and Gregg Giannotti.
“I’m serious,” Fletcher said, laughing. “That’s how easy it was. When he threw the football, I’m standing in the zone and I’m thinking, ‘Oh, my god, no he didn’t just throw this football to me.’”
Brian Jones asked sarcastically if it was a beautiful pass.
“Oh man, beautiful pass,” Fletcher said, still unable to control his laughter. “I was just thinking, ‘Don’t drop this thing.’ But he tossed it so soft to me.
“I’ll tell you, that Jerry Jones could sell water to a whale or ice to an eskimo.”
Jones, a diehard Cowboys fan, certainly hopes Weeden proves Fletcher wrong this Sunday at home against Atlanta.
Fletcher isn’t holding his breath.
“Hey, we’ll see,” Fletcher said, laughing. “We’ll see.”
