Do you ever wonder what goes into a swimsuit shoot? Or what is involved? Or what the process is?
Well, you can find out by watching The Victoria’s Secret Swim Special on CBS this Thursday at 10 p.m. ET.
The one-hour special provides a behind-the-scenes look at Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge and Behati Prinsloo, among other Angels, as they complete a shoot in Puerto Rico.
“It’s fun,” Ambrosio said in-studio on CBS Sports Radio’s Gio and Jones. “You get all the girls being silly and goofy and doing underwater shoots and going to water falls. It’s just like this amazing (experience). We shot everything in Puerto Rico, so it’s just like a gorgeous island, so it’s beautiful images and there’s a lot going on.”
In addition to jungle treks and exotic backgrounds, the Angels participated in a volleyball game while shooting. Ambrosio’s team lost, but she wasn’t there for it.
“I went to the bathroom,” she said, laughing. “I (needed) to touch up in there, and I lost.”
Still, it wasn’t all fun and games for the 33-year-old Ambrosio, who had to overcome some personal fears during the shoot.
“I think my personal fear was actually the photographer, Russell James,” she said. “He’s very famous for shooting Victoria’s Secret. He loves to do tricks with us, so my personal fear was I had to do this underwater shoot with him, and I was so scared he was going to bring some weird fish or something was going to happen. Because when you’re underwater and you have no goggles, you can’t see anything. So i was just so scared that he was going to do something with me or tie me down to something, but he didn’t.”
Ambrosio, who is from Brazil, has modeled for Armani, Christian Dior and Ralph Lauren, among other brands. She knew she wanted to become a model at 13, when she saw photos of Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer.
“I saw their pictures, and I was like, ‘I want to be one of those girls,’” she said.
Nearly 20 years later, Ambrosio is one of the most recognizable models in the business and has traveled the world and made a lot of friends in the process.
“We do have a lot of fun,” she said of the Angels. “I know a lot of the girls, we have kids. We have things to talk about. Same kind of experience in life. And we get to hang out and like just know each other. So we have a good time together.”
The Angels also got to see Grammy-winning artists Maroon 5 and Juanes perform in Puerto Rico.
“I’m going to remember that forever,” Ambrosio said. “It was just a beautiful time.”
And guys, if you’re curious, Ambrosio is marred with children – so don’t get your hopes up. Ambrosio said that her husband, thankfully, is not the jealous type. Of course, you really can’t be if you’re going to marry a model. Otherwise you would drive yourself crazy.
“Yeah, he’s fine with jealousy,” Ambrosio said. “The only thing is I get to travel a lot, so a lot of times I’m not home. That’s the only complaint I get. He’s like, ‘We don’t have a normal life.’ I’m like, ‘But you knew me. You knew what I did before we got together.’”
Ambrosio said her husband sometimes joins her for shoots, but “right now he’s home with the kids.”
Although Ambrosio has been modeling for a long time, relatively speaking, she has no plans to slow down. The secret to her success, she said, is passion.
“I just love what I do,” Ambrosio explained. “I have so much fun every second. I just enjoy whatever I’m doing. They take me to these amazing places – paradise. I’m always with a smile on my face and full of energy and ready to do it.”
